Great Advice
Written by Regina Brett whose odometer rolled over to 90 in August:
1. Life isn\'t fair, but it\'s still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone...
4. Your job won\'t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don\'t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It\'s more healing than crying alone.
8. It\'s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first pay cheque.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
Saturated fat and your arteries
More research showing that it’s not saturated fat that clogs our arteries. In fact, the scientists are saying that saturated fat can actually reduce cholesterol in the blood!! So what causes atherosclerosis? Nobel Prize winning scientist Linus Pauling believes that it’s a lack of Vitamin C. As we are one of the few animals on this planet that cannot produce Vitamin C so when levels get low the body has to have a backup plan. As vitamin C is needed to repair artery walls when we don’t have enough the body makes cholesterol to repair the cracks – otherwise we would bleed to death!! So if you have atherosclerosis, high cholesterol levels or just wants to eat a bit more saturated fat take Vitamin C. You will need to take between 1-3 grams a day – don’t worry about overdosing – if you take too much your bowels will tell you!! (excess Vitamin C = loose stools) If you want to get your ideal dose checked just ask next time your in for an appointment – bring your vitamin C with you. Or I can suggest the best brand for you.
High blood pressure and cold weather?
Apparently there are more heart attacks in cold weather and they think that this is because when the temperature drops (even by as little as 9 degrees) the body constricts the blood vessels. In someone with high blood pressure this raises the pressure even more and may trigger a heart attack. So their advice? If you have high blood pressure make sure you dress warmly in colder weather – keep those blood vessels unconstructed!!
Breast Cancer and Night Shifts
Following on from the recent court case in Scandinavia (reported in an earlier health-E-news) a research study which explains why night shifts increase the risk of breast cancer. When mice were exposed to artificial light at night melatonin was suppressed which in turn stimulated the growth of human breast tumours. When the mice were allowed to have extended periods of night-time darkness the growth of these tumours slowed greatly. So it is even more important for night shift workers to take a good quality multivitamin, high dose anti-oxidants and to get really dark quality sleep during the day.
And finally….Thought for Today – Manage Emotions
When the energy of our consciousness is out of our control - the mind is agitated. We are being emotional. The solution is to detach from the inner storms, stand back and observe the hurricane pass. Detached observation withdraws the energy which your emotions require to sustain themselves. When you watch your own anger, it dies. If you don\'t detach from it, and observe it ...it will be your master.
